Hello. My name is Jim Miller, 40 years old and a resident of Murfreesboro, TN where I live with my partner Gregg Hackney. Prior to my moving to Murfreesboro in August of 2003 I formerly lived on the town square of Osceola, a small town doing big things in south central Iowa. I was born there but grew up in Murray, an even smaller town 10 miles to the.west where my parents owned a bar, Miller-Time Tap, for 16 years and my aunt and uncle until recently owned Miller's Grocery, a small three aisle grocery store.
In 1987 I and my 25 classmates graduated from Murray Com-munity School. Immediately thereafter I went into the Air Force. After basic & technical training I spent the remainder of my enlistment as a weather observer at Ellsworth Air Force Base, near the Black Hills of South Dakota. I received an Honorable Discharge in June, 1991 & returned home to Iowa. For nine years thereafter I worked at Murray Products, a division of Dekko Automotive Technologies, a factory that makes automotive wiring harnesses. I was a preblocker (a.k.a. subassembler), but during the last year and a half I worked there I was moved on to terminating and wire cutting.
During most of my employ at DAT I attended Southwestern Community College where, on May 12, 2000 I received an Associates of Arts degree. I am planning to finish up my undergraduate education probably at Middle Tennessee State University here in Murfreesboro (eventually) and I will likely be a double major in English & History.
I started working at sears.com on 25 SEP 2001 as an On-line Care Associate. Just in time for the Christmas season. I am happy to report that I survived my first retail Christmas season and two more. Though a large part of my job is to give customers an outlet to vent, I for the most part, loved my job. But alas, after 9 years at Murray Products and nearly 3 years at Sears, I felt it was time to move on.
Gregg and I met online on November 7, 2002 and 800 emails and 9 months later I moved to Murfreesboro, Tennessee the following August. It has been six turbulent and tumultous years and neither one of us has killed the other... yet.
In July of 2003 I was offered a position as a customer service representative at Verizon Wireless' new call center in Murfreesboro, TN which precipitated my move here. I began working for them on 2 SEP 2003.in their brand new call center devoted to Wireless Local Number Portability.
My interests are quite varried as you can probably tell from the menue bar on the left. I enjoy reading & writing. I am currently working on my own Civil War novel titled Angels of Our Nature, and have posted excerpts from it on this site. Check it out & tell me what you think.
I love movies, books, and the theater. I also love to cook, but years of living the single life didn't afford me get that much of an opportunity to do it. I also plan to post a few of my favorite recipes as well.
And lastly, I am obscessed with genealogy. I have been able to trace my ancestry on several lines back to the 1600's. I am descended from no less than 13 Mayflower Passengers and two American Immigrants of Royal Descent (which goes back to Afranius Sygarius, a Gallo-Roman Colsul who lived in 381 a.d. Both my Mother and my Father descend from Isabelle, Bastard of Scotland, the illegitimate daughter of William I, The Lion, King of Scotland, making me an inbred double royal bastard. Check out my genealogy page to find out more... maybe you could break through one of my stone walls.
